Can’t wait to return…

One of the best holidays my wife and I have had anywhere in the world and so easy for us to get to from Sydney. We travelled to Cape Tribulation and stayed at Mist for 5 nights in January (supposedly the middle of wet season) and we experienced 5 days of 32 degree sunny weather without a cloud in the sky.

Before we arrived we were confident that our stay would be pleasurable as Mary and Paul communicated to us regularly to provide us with ideas/suggestions of what we could do during our stay.

Upon arrival at Mist, Mary and Paul made us immediately welcome and asked what activities we were interested in. The following morning, as we were having a homemade bacon & egg roll on our deck, we were delighted to see Mary arrive with fresh muffins and tell us that she had booked all our activities (Great Barrier Reef snorkelling, horse riding, Jungle Safari zip lining & night rainforest walk) for the days ahead. Mary and Paul made everything so easy for us.
Whilst it took a few hours to come to terms with, we actually loved that we had no mobile phone reception during our stay.

The massive cabins, known as pavilions, were amazing. Top quality sheets, Dyson fans and Sheridan and Ecoya bathroom accessories were unexpected but welcomed – no expense was spared in the fitout of the 3 pavilions tucked into the middle of the rainforest. That’s right…there is a maximum of 6 people who can stay at Mist at any given time!
We cannot recommend our experience more! We loved our stay at Mist. Mary and Paul were the most amazing hosts and we can’t wait to return to Mist at Cape Tribulation.

Be MIST-ified

My partner and I spent four nights at Mist in early January 2019. Driving up to Mist we were greeted by Mary who has a very welcoming nature. She welcomed us to Mist and introduced us to Toffee, the adorable dog.

Mary, Paul and Toffee were the most charming and accommodating hosts. We had no adventures/tours booked when we arrived due to the potential bad weather, but when we knew the weather was clearing they helped arrange tours at short notice for us and we didn’t miss out on anything.

We spent the days out and about exploring the divine natural swimming holes around the Daintree, zip lining, horse riding, eating local ice-cream and snorkelling the GBR. We went out for a delicious dinner on the night we arrived but every night after we couldn’t get off the balcony at Mist. We sat out having BBQ’s with friends enjoying the surrounding swimming hole, natural bush, bird and wildlife. We couldn’t believe how big the endangered bats were and loved watching them come out at night over the ridge with the binoculars.

The room was outstanding, with style and cleanliness a high priority of Mary and Paul. The bed was super comfy with superb linen – we struggled to get out in the mornings.

There is no reception or Wifi around the Daintree, which suited us – there are so many other things to do. One night we were walking to our room and couldn’t believe the amount of stars. We spent hours sitting outside at night looking at all the stars.

The only down side to Mist is the day you know you have to pack up and leave. Thank you Mary, Paul and Toffee – I do have so many good stories about my stay at Mist but seen as I have written a novel already.

Stunning!!! Best holiday we have ever taken!!!

There is something very special and beautiful about Cape Tribulation – The Mist surely embodies this. I think I can pretty comfortably say you are not going to get better accomodation or hosts in Cape Tribulation than The Mist. It’s perfect location, central to most things also adds to the appeal. Mary and Paul were just amazing, from the moment we arrived. We pulled in very early knowing there was no way our room could be ready, but we wanted to put some things in the fridge before we had lunch. Mary and Paul were so lovely, helping us store away our perishables. The arrival cheese, snacks, fruit and alcohol was another beautiful touch. Not to mention a coffee pod machine and fruit. The rooms – wow – Mary and Paul have really thought about the small touches. Everything is beautiful down to the towels and soap! They included in our room a book with every species from the Daintree Forest and my husband and our friends who stayed in another room spent hours classifying species and watching birds/bats with the binoculars also included in our rooms for us. The Deck literally overlooks Mount Sorrow and view is beautiful – staying in for dinner is as good if not better than heading out. The BBQ on the deck was perfect. At night you could hear the river flowing from your bed. We came home to a freshly picked mango from their beautiful orchard one morning, left on our veranda by our lovely hosts and it was one of the nicest Mangoes I had ever tasted!

We had all our activities prebooked, but the other guests didn’t and it was so lovely to see Mary and Paul organising their activities and using their connections to get them into tours like snorkeling the GBR within a couple of days of their arrival. The activities there are plentiful, but allow time to just explore because there is so much to see and so many perfect swimming holes you simply must experience. This destination has become very special to us and I feel like we will be back there soon.

It is tough to fault this place and honestly I really can’t – But I will mention there is no internet or reception in Cape Tribulation, it is very much a digital detox. To be honest, for us, this did us the world of good. We did not want to leave and return to reality. If you are looking for the perfect balance of relaxation/recharge and magnificent sight seeing experiences, this place is truely heaven on earth – book it. Thanks again to Mary and Paul, we are so thankful.

Gem in the Rainforest

I had the pleasure of staying with Mary and Paul at Mist at Cape Tribulation and can not recommend this location enough.

After a spectacular drive through the Daintree Rainforest you arrive at Mist to be greeted by Toffee the very loveable concierge. Mary and Paul will also greet you and escort you to your private pavilion.

The pavilions bring a 5 star capital city quality to Far North Queensland, while still having that tropical Queensland look and feel. Equipped with everything you could possibly need and a welcome pack to die for of French Champagne and a cheese platter you can settle in and immediately relax!

Sit on the private deck and take in the views, or wander out onto the property and take in all the spectacular bird life and tropical plants. The private swimming hole is one not to miss or relax on one of the double hammocks.

Mist at Cape Tribulation is a must do for anyone who wants to really get away and also experience the only place where 2 world heritage listed locations quite literally meet!
