Sustainable accommodation
mist at Cape Tribulation offers our guests a secluded rainforest retreat in our off-grid, pet-friendly and private pavilions that overlook Mount Sorrow and the Daintree Rainforest. Surrounded by exotic fruit-trees and palms, we value sustainability and supporting local.
The grounds
mist is situated in Tropical North Queensland – the only place in the world where two heritage-listed sites meet each other – the Wet Tropics in which the Daintree National Park is part of, and the Great Barrier Reef – the world’s most extensive coral reef.
Forty years ago, the original owners of mist travelled the world to collect and plant seeds of non-invasive tropical palms and fruit trees (which you are welcome to pick from) on the serene 8-acre property, enjoying expansive views of Mount Sorrow.
A mere 30 metre stroll from your pavilion and you will enter the Daintree rainforest, where there is a year-round creek to cool down in.
Our rainforest location means there are plenty of native, tropical birds that you can watch from your pavilion, or on one of the many walks around Cape Tribulation.
There are three private pavilions as well as a main house where your hosts Lilian and Kim reside.
Sustainability
Mist at Cape Tribulation prides itself on its consideration of the special environment we occupy and we know our guests will want to do the same. We are totally off grid, sustainable accommodation so we encourage our guests to minimise their power usage and taking actions like not having the air conditioning on and windows open at the same time. We rely on solar power and back-up generators and embrace an eco-sustainable lifestyle in the rainforest.
We recognise we are on Eastern Kuku Yalanji peoples country, where Kaba Kada (Daintree) meets the reef, a place that holds incredible cultural importance to the Eastern Kuku Yalanji peoples.
Experiences
While you can bring food for a few days that can be cooked in the hooded barbecue on the deck or within the kitchenette, we encourage all our guests to not only have a break from cooking, but to support our Cape Tribulation community.
